Q: Is naturism safe for
children?
A: Anyone who has observed children knows that they
are enthusiastic naturists. We have never seen young
children who are self-conscious when nude. In fact, you
may observe them squeal with delight when they are
allowed to run around nude. It is only in their later
years that they are pressured into being self-conscious
and adopt older people's phobias about the body. We
believe that it is healthier for children to grow up
comfortable with their own bodies. We don't think there
is any advantage in teaching them to be ashamed and
embarrassed by certain parts of their bodies.
Q: What do I do if I am menstruating?
A: Generally, women do the same thing in the
naturist world as they do in the clothed world. Many
use a tampon. If they prefer, they wear shorts or
bikini bottoms. Menstruation is a normal part of being
a woman and one which naturists understand.. |

Our main holiday
that year was to be France in Gertie planning to head for
the Atlantic Coast to the west and south west of
Bordeaux. Courtesy of our guide books we knew this to be
good naturist country. We left Southampton during the
third week in June, sailing to Cherbourg and then driving
steadily across country in a generally southerly
direction. The following afternoon we arrived at
Montalivet-les-Bains, due west of Bordeaux. This is a
small resort town and little else. Our original plan had
been to start here and gradually work our way south along
the coastline. Tiredness from the long drive changed this
and we decided to rest up in this area for a few nights,
rough camping in the general area.
From the Gironde Estuary in the north to Biaritz in the
south is about 200 miles of white beach backed, in the
main, by pine forests with only the odd small resort town
every 30 miles or so. I've heard it said that you can
walk naked from north to south only needing to put a
towel on to cross the town beaches - I would not dispute
that. We didn't see any "No Nudity" signs only ones that
said "Naturists Please Dress" as you approached a town
area. We were obviously expected and welcomed. The first
night we stayed on the roadside a couple of kilometres to
the north of the town within view of the beach.
Satisfactory but noisy.
The following night we moved a few more kilometres north
to a car park at a place called Le Gurp which permitted
campervans to stay free of charge for a few nights. Quite
a change from the U.K. where overnight parking seems to
be prohibited almost everywhere. Le Gurp is just outside
the boundary fence of the naturist resort of Euronat. We
were quite content just to use the beach and dunes for
sunbathing but the temptation was too great - we had to
have a look inside.
Bit big this Euronat place, facilities for camping,
caravan, log cabins and just about anything else. Shops,
swimming pools etc,etc,etc. It took most of a morning to
have a look around. Naturists everywhere!!! All set
amongst a pine forest it was obviously excellent for
those that enjoy this sort of thing. Not our style
though.
After 4 days we decided to head south but then the
weather deserted us. A persistent sea mist developed that
never cleared during the day. It deteriorated further the
following day and we decided to head back north touring
the countryside. The further north we got the better the
weather (England was having a heat wave!!!). Late the
following evening we arrived at the coast to the west of
Quimper near the village of Treguenne where the book said
there was a naturist beach. The weather was good again
and we looked forward to a day in the sun. We awoke next
morning to that sea mist again! It cleared for a few
hours during the afternoon and we found the very pleasant
and friendly naturist beach without difficulty. The
following day the mist did not clear although a few miles
inland it was sunny. England was still hot!!! We moved
further north, through a thunderstorm to Granville sur
Mare. The weather had by now deserted us completely.We
checked the location of the nude beach only to find " No
Nudity" signs on it - with two gentleman lying against
one...stark naked!! Well this is France!!
Cutting our losses we headed for Cherbourg and home where
the weather was still good, thinking that we could finish
our holiday at Studland. Again the weather had other
ideas and although we spent a couple of pleasant days in
Dorset it certainly wasn't beach weather.
From a sun point of view this was not the best of
holidays but we do have other interests. We enjoyed
France and Dorset and we were still determining to get to
Studland.
